language-games

Wittgenstein described language as only communicating meaning within the context of a set of rules he called ‘language-games’.  This idea was been expanded upon quite a bit in the 20th century by philosophers examining the semantics of language, and the radical subjectivist body of work that is often labeled ‘PoMo’ and associated with Foucault et al.  The political ‘topspin’ of that work obscures Wittgenstein’s original insight.

late Wittgenstein

Late Wittgenstein refers to when Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote Philosophical Investigations, in which he characterized philosophy as ‘language-games’ and declared that philosophical problems go away entirely when you realize this.  He also elevated aesthetics as the ultimate truthteller.  See also: early Wittgenstein.

A social domain described by Jacques Lacan as:

The little other is the other who is not really other, but a reflection and projection of the Ego…for this reason the symbol ‘a‘ can represent both the little other and the ego…

Ludwig Wittgenstein

Ludwig Wittgenstein was an early 20th century German philosopher whose career went through two distinct phases: early Wittgenstein was the darling of the philosophy world, while late Wittgenstein showed that all philosophy problems are language-games and go away once one realizes this.
