Henri de Saint-Simon

Henri de Saint-Simon is considered to be the founder of utopian socialism. He lived in the aftermath of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era. He foresaw the rise of the business managerial class to replace feudal nobility structures, and the rise of the social status of scientists. He was a strong believer in free markets, in contrast to future socialist thought. His secretary, Auguste Comte, was a follower but later became estranged when Comte felt the need to step out of the shadow of his mentor and pursue a more radically progressive path.

Human Connectome Project

The Human Connectome Project was the marquee project of the Obama administration’s BRAIN Initiative. It collected a massive fMRI dataset from more than 1,000 participants, each of which was scanned over an hour while performing a standard battery of cognitive tests. The massive cohort and extended scanning time allowed for generalized patterns to be detected across subjects. The HCP dataset is still used as a reference dataset for data mining studies today.

The HCP project led to the Glasser parcellation.
