The ventral striatum is generally viewed in neuroscience as the ‘reward and pleasure center’, but in neuromythography we call attention to its role in what world religions have historically regarded as ‘evil’ (Western) or ‘disorder’ (Eastern). Pleasure itself is related to mu opioid (Voluptas) receptors in the ventral striatum that are activated by beta-endorphin (Euphoria).
